Beautifully weathered layers in an old quarry on the mountain of Kinnekulle in Sweden. The lowermost layers are the oldest ones because they are deposited first. For the fossils in the layers applies: the higher they sit, the younger they are. But they are not really young, for the rock has an age of more than 450 millions of years (Ordovician).
