Carnivorous plants in Kew Gardens

Darwin is famous for his evolution theory but also as a geologist and certainly as a botanist. We have already mentioned his orchid book. He now started a series of botanical books, every one of which is still very important. He always chose subjects which were intriguing because it was difficult to understand how certain traits could come into existence by natural selection, in other words, characteristics which are so amazing, that it is difficult to imagine that they have arisen by natural forces. The drawing of a sundew plant on the left is from his book on carnivorous plants. Other carnivorous plants in the beautiful Kew Gardens in London are seen on the right.
His experiments were always carried out in his famous greenhouse.
