Immediately after his Descent of Man Darwin starts working on a book
on emotions in man and in animals. In this case, too, the idea behind
the subject is to show that man and animals have many things in common, including
emotions. Animals too can be happy. Think of cows entering the pasture in
the spring for the first time. In 1872 his book is published under the title: The Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animals. |
Above two pages from this book showing illustrations of sadness and joy
in humans. From this book the essay on blushing is famous. He includes a
description of how some people are blushing all over their backs. Hereafter Darwin's life continues as before : working hard, making walks, enjoying family life and his animals. His health is somewhat better. He has laid his egg.
