- leaf scars about as high as wide, hexagonal to rounded
- furrows between the ribs straight or slightly undulating
- vertical distance of the leaf scars mostly no larger than half the height of a scar, often less
- lateral angles rather sharp
- in most cases a clearly-defined line above the leaf scars is present
- two slanting rows of wrinkles ('a split beard') below the leaf scars.
