At last Darwin resumed the research on his transmutation theory. He had
the intention to bring together the huge quantity of facts and arguments,
which he had collected in his contacts with breeders and growers, in a large
publication in several volumes. He called it his 'great book'. He started
the writing of it in 1856. On the photo a border collie or sheep dog, a race especially bred for its intelligence and for guarding the sheep . |
Above an illustration which makes clear how a species can change in rather a short time by artificial selection. The breeders have clearly selected on shortening the legs and on getting a pleasant face. |
