Sedgwick

Sedgwick Museum

A second person who was very important to Darwin was Professor Sedgwick, the man who watched over the good manners of all people at the college. Henslow introduced Darwin to him and once again Darwin succeeded in winning his sympathy. Sedgwick was a geologist and through him Darwin started studying geology.
On the right an impression of the delightful, old-fashioned Sedgwick Museum in Cambridge. It really is a museum for collectors, because huge numbers of fossils are exhibited there. It is worth visiting if you are in the neighbourhood!

Adam Sedgwick

By working very hard in the last months of his training, Darwin succeeded in passing his exam in theology. And his marks were not so bad at all!  This happened in 1831.
The geology training which Darwin received from Sedgwick was completed by a practical week together with his teacher in Wales. Here Darwin gained a lot of experience, which turned out to be very useful in his Beagle voyage.
