Rootlets of Calamites

Attached to nodes of the rhizomes were unarticulated roots bearing fine side-roots. Two types are distinguished:
Pinnularia: the rootlets are arranged in two rather regular rows.
Myriophyllites: the rootlets are attached irregularly to the whole surface of the main root.

Generally the rootlets of Pinnularia are longer than those of Myriophyllites. In the latter they appear more chaotically.
