- Alethopteris lonchitica leaflets rather long and relatively narrow in the upper part of a partial frond decurrent and confluent in the lower part less decurrent, sometimes even contracted at the base |

- Alethopteris serlii leaflets up to 4 cm long and rather wide (up to 9 mm) leaflets with convex sides and a nearly blunt apex |

- Alethopteris grandinii leaflets small, with blunt apex rather closely spaced |

- Alethopteris decurrens leaflets small (up to 3 cm) and very narrow (about 3 mm) veins relatively widely spaced |

- Alethopteris
davreuxii leaflets elongated triangular to lanceolate, vaulted and obliquely attached strikingly clear, loose, a bit flexuous veins |
