Leaf cushion of Lepidodendron aculeatum Leaf cushion of Lepidodendron aculeatum
In the middle is the leaf scar with some small pits.
VB is the scar of the vascular bundle of the leaf.
On the left and on the right (P) are the scars of the so-called parichnos, which had probably a function in the airing of the trunk. Below the leaf scar there are another two scars of the parichnos.
L is the pit of the ligule, a small bract placed on the leaf. It is characteristic for clubmosses. This pit is mostly filled up with coaly material.
