Seeds

Seeds are not abundant in Graissessac, though we did find concentrations at some places. In most cases they are not well enough preserved to identify them at species level. That's why I only mention the genus name.

There were two groups of seedproducing plants: the seed ferns and the cordaits. Most seeds come from the first group.

Codonospermum sp. A more or less circular seed sometimes showing 8 ribs coming from the middle of the seed. This seed did possess a body for floating.
Holcospermum sp. Oval seeds with 8 to 12 ribs on one side.
Trigonocarpus sp. This is a seed with 3 (sometimes 6) ribs around. In compressed specimens mostly only 1 of 2 of the ribs are visible.
Carpolithus sp. (no picture). This is a artificial genus for rounded seeds without clear characteristics. The surface is mostly smooth but can also show folds.
Samaropsis sp. These are small seeds with a large wing, which is divided at the top.
Cordaicarpus sp. (no picture). Small seeds with a narrow edge or wing. Probably from Cordaites.
