Cordaites
Cordaites
Cordaites is a genus of gymnosperm trees and shrubs with long, ribbonshaped
leaves, which can be up to 70 cm long and up to 15 cm wide. Click
here for more information
on Cordaites.
Some species are distinguished, but it is questionable if this makes
sense. Therefore most leaves can best be called Cordaites sp.
Narrow leaves, as on the photo to the right, can be reckoned to the
species Poacordaites palmaeformis.
Seeds of the cordaits are also found. They are mentioned in the chapter
on the seeds.
