Anthraconaia sp. (pruvosti or
piesbergensis)
Piesberg
Westphalian D
Size 1.5 cm
In some layers freshwater bivalves occur. These shells can be used for
stratigraphic purposes.
Common bivalves in Upper Carboniferous layers are Anthracosia and
Carbonicola. These two genera can be distinguished by the flat top
of Anthracosia and the more projected top of Carbonicola. In
the latter genus faint radial lines run from the top across the shell.
