Bennettitales from Bayreuth

The plants in this (extinct) group look very much like cycasses, but they have evolved flowers for propagation. It was thought that modern flowering plants could descend from a plant in this group, but this appears not to be true. Yet, there is still discussion on the subject.

OtozamitesOtozamites brevifolius
has a cycas-like leaf, which can be recognized by the fact that the base of the side leaflets is enlarged on the upper side. Often this broadening lies over the axis of the leaf.
